KOUFONISIA

The Koufonisia group of islands consist of the Lower and Upper Koufonisi and belongs to the East Minor Cyclades. Geographically, they are located on the southeast of Naxos and west of Amorgos. Inextricably linked with Koufonisia is Keros, a small island of 15 square kilometers. Keros is uninhabited, but hosts significant findings of Cycladic culture.

KATO (LOWER) KOUFONISI

Located between Koufonisi, Schinoussa and Keros, has an area of 4.3 square km and is almost uninhabited. The only development is a few summer homes. A feature attraction of the island is the church of Virgin Mary built on ancient ruins. In the picturesque harbor of Kato Koufonisi are fishing boats and excursion boats, carrying visitors to the beautiful beaches of the island.

PANO (UPPER) KOUFONISI

Upper Koufonisi is the smallest and most densely populated island of the Cyclades. It has an area of 3.5 square km and 366 inhabitants. The principal and exclusive occupation of the inhabitants is fishing which turns the island into a genuine fishing village, where visitors can enjoy fresh fish and seafood in abundance. Koufonisi also has one of the largest fishing fleets of Greece, relative to its population. Arriving on the island, the white windmill on the left that dominates the harbor seems to welcome visitors, while the village of Chora, a model of Cycladic architecture, is spread over the countryside. The heavenly sandy and rocky beaches complete the majestic picture of the island. Koufonisi In the Minor Cyclades, tourism has only started to develop in the last decade, so the natural beauty and traditional charm of Koufonisi have been kept unchanged. These, combined with excellent hospitality of the locals, but also the affordability of accommodation and food, makes the island an ideal summer vacation destination.
